POLICIES:
NEW ORDERS:
Due to the generous but overwhelming response to my work since my introduction to the hobby, new commissions can not be taken.
Please check this website for show donations and links to auctions.
For further explanation, please read "Where have all the artists gone?"
EXISTING ORDERS:
Some of the policies incorporated here appear to only provide for additional fees. If you have dealt with me, you know that I'm pretty fair about doing little extras. There have been a couple of people, unfortunately, who have taken advantage of this and pushed it to the extreme, which is highly unfair to others waiting in line- and me as well!
Changes in existing orders:
My current (and wonderfully patient!) customers may alter their existing orders:
- So many people in the hobby are progressing from plastics to resins and I understand that interests do change. If I have your OF plastic, you may replace it with a resin IF the resin is in good condition- preferably prepped (I have received resins in worse condition than any OF- aaack!)
- If I have your OF to be repainted, you may replace it with a china/bisque.
- If I have your OF to be repainted, you may replace it with a better quality OF.
For instance, if you wish to trade your old Breyer QH body for an ISH body- PLEASE DO! ;-D
- If you have placed an order and haven't yet paid, but wish to cancel, no problem, just e-mail me.
- If you have placed an order and paid, but wish to cancel- I will gladly make refunds, but please understand that I will not likely have large sums of cash on hand. (come on- I'm an artist!) Contact me and I will make arrangements to get your money returned to you as quickly as possible. If work has already begun- especially in the case of customizing, hourly charges must be deducted. I charge $25 hour for sculpting/prepping/painting.
- If you have placed an order and wish to change the color and/or pattern:
If I have not begun painting- or if your changes won't involve repainting- I'll gladly accommodate. Please note that if you increase complexity (dappling, paint, appy, dun- or more extensive versions than originally quoted) there may be additional charges.
- If the horse you wish to exchange is a different scale, (or , say, a large traditional for a traditional foal) pricing will have to be altered.
Policies born of experience!
- Please pack well for shipping and insure those babies fully! I highly recommend return receipts.
- If you buy from a second party and have your horse shipped directly to me, please make sure THEY pack well and insure fully!! Even more reason to request a return receipt!
- Horses received in unusually bad finished shape will incur an upcharge (plastic or resin)
- Horses received adequately prepped will ship faster (I generally work on 3-6 horses together, and pre-prepped horses go much faster- not prejudice- just fact!)
- Please pack horses safely for shipping! If received broken, I must charge for repairs!
PAYMENT:
Commissions:
Payment is due within 10 days of completion of the model. Time payments of half upon notification, balance within 30 days can be arranged. Nonpayment within this time frame will result in forfeiture of the model and any deposit made.
Resins:
Upon announcement of a resin's pre-sale or public release, a $50 deposit is required within 10 days to secure a reservation. The balance due will be collected upon announcement that the resin has been sent for casting. SmokeNmirrorZ offers a 90-day payment plan for resins. Time payments should be arranged at time of deposit, and can be made in whatever fashion is convenient to the customer- just so the horse is paid off within 90 days. Nonpayment within this time frame will result in forfeiture of the model and any deposit made. Castings will be shipped in the order in which they are paid in full.
Methods of payment:
Paypal (under account b1rds@mindspring.com ), postal money order, cashiers check, or personal check accepted. Purchases paid by check will be held until the check clears your bank. Please note that any bounced checks will incur a $28 fee and will prevent future transactions via check.
VARA/Copyright notice:
You may alter your unpainted resin. That's part of the creative fun we enjoy within our hobby. However, please credit the original to the sculpting artist and claim any alterations as your own. You may not cast the altered copyrighted piece.
Simply put, give credit where credit is due!
TOUCH-UPS:
I will generally touch up or repair my horses. If there is evidence of damage due to improper care or mishandling, there will be a charge.
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE:
Keep in mind that we are brewing up chemical concoctions that WILL react to being sealed without ventilation. That "new horse smell" we have learned to love is actually proof that the plastic breathes off fumes. Those fumes are also proof that the chemistry is still active to some degree. They need to be stored in a breathable area away from heat or direct sunlight, away from cigarette smoke, kitchen or cleaning fumes, or insecticides. Note- a curio cabinet, though closed, is not airtight, and if you occasionally open the doors for airing, should be fine for your babies.
SHIPPING:
- DO NOT EVER wrap your lovelies directly in bubble wrap or any plastic!
- DO NOT EVER secure wrapping with rubber bands!!!!
- If you spray a finish on your horsies, or wash them, let them dry overnight before wrapping.
- Insure your horses adequately and always request a return receipt- cheapest peace of mind on Earth!
For shipping or show travel, I recommend wrappings such as toilet paper or 100% white or undyed cotton (no synthetics) in direct contact with your horse, then corrugated foam padding for protection from bumps.
These precautions should insure that your prized baby doesn't contract tacky syndrome or become handicapped. Remember, a safe horsie is a happy horsie- and a protection of your investment!
