hello
i normally just read the posts on the list and very rarely contribute but have to say that last night was one of the best nights of my life
caught the end of Crazyhead set and hearing Baby turpentine brought back memories of dancing in Rock City on a saturday night back in 88-91 when i used to frequent nottingham
All About Eve ---- fantastic i wish they could have played more excellent set made better for me by seeing Marty Wilson-Piper from The Church playing guitar again with them(do any people on this list like The Church?????)
The MIsh --- wayne, craig, mark + scott please come back soon great set despite a few sound problems from out front. i loved the acoustic "like a child again" this must be recorded to sit beside the piano version on resurrection. the set seemed the same as the astoria with the exception of garden of delight & crystal ocean (which would have made my night) although before sacrilige wayne played the intro to "temple of love" which got the crowd on tenderhooks + this brought back memories of the Neverland tour when Mark did the same at the gig at Norwich UEA
hope to see the mish again soon in the future with a longer set (Rock City now has an 11 o'clock curfew midweek for bands
keep the faith

Woke feeling very much the worse for wear (why did I have that extra pint?) Hammered on Mel's door the helped her drag the Jolly Green Giant up & down the steps of London (it's a story in itself that!) Train down to Nottingham, checked in & headed for Rock City. Hung around for a while watching the guys soundcheck (Pale, Butterfly, Over the hills) then went for a curry with Dave P, Barbara and friend from Germany, Brian & wife (I'm sooo sorry, I can't remember your name!) Yes folks, the curry happened and was enjoyed by all! :-)
Into the Ferkin for a quick scoop, spotted a shaven-headed Mr Jez Webb in a corner along with others so Mel and me left Dave to catch up on things with them and headed in. Met Graham, Lee, and....erm Graham's friend (sorry, more memory loss) Oh yeah, Mr Gill too, and no, he's not as scary as his picture looks! (Sorry, I just HAD to say it!!! )
Merch stand had the Resurrection CD for fifteen quid, sold by the bucketload. (and yes, I love it already)
Big Crazyhead contingent in evidence, they seemed to enjoy it anyway. Singing Duck was on amp in readiness for the nights proceedings (much to Mel's delight) AAE were even better than the night before, set list varied a little from last night with "Flowers" being belted out with great enthusiasm after Julianne announcing that "You love us, we love you, I love these guys so let's play this" Again they finished with "Outshine the sun" it was just unbelievable to watch them all going at it with their guitars, Marty was phenomenal, they left the stage with the crowd baying for more...
Again the Mission arrived on stage after a rather prolonged 'Dambusters' (what kept you?) :-)
Beyond the Pale, Hands, Into the Blue then Severina. During Severina a blow-up doll was hurled on stage, complete with black fishnet outfit. Mr Hussey did not appear amused as he hurled it headlong back into the crowd, minutes later it was back onstage again, I dunno, groupies, what do you do with them?
Into Deliverance and yet more inflatable objects appeared, including a large pink pig dropping straight into my outstretched arms during the chorus, surreal!!
Tower of strength was truly monumental, the pyramids had to be seen to be believed! A sea of hands reached out to Wayne who was balanced on the barrier rail, guy looked like he was having a ball! Can't help falling in Love with you received a mixed response, some people were downright rude (one guy behind me repeatedly shouting "bollocks!" A true fan!)
Wayne started "Like a Child Again" saying "I fucked this one up last night, let's see if I can get it right tonight"
"A fiver says you don't" some wit answered, guess they owe Wayne a fiver cos it was truly beautiful.
They encored with Sacrilege, Wasteland, Blood Brother (Mark broke a string and had to rush off for a replacement guitar) and 1969, what a night. Rock City being a smaller venue it was more intimate than the Astoria, but they rocked just as much.(Wayne, thanks for the plectrum)
No, the duck didn't get a chance to sing but there was an interesting reggae moment on stage at one point, hmm, maybe something for the next album?
The night finished with a goth disco downstairs, there were some very scary characters about so us mishlist people wussed out and disappeared off into the rainy Nottingham night....
Well, that's my version of events, what I can remember anyway, I'm knackered, I've work in the morning so I'm off.
Everybody enjoy Manchester!!!

Serpent's kiss and Over the hills were outstanding...out of this world.
At the end we found Mark and got the picture with him...picture taken by Ric Carter...but never managed to get a picture with Ric later on. Nice meeting you there Jen and Melanie (again). James, your spanish it's very good. Thanks for the tea but please buy sugar next time, Canderel sucks!!!!!
