Just staggered in from the DC show... what a night. It didn't start offthat well - as I pulled in to park outside the 9:30 club I hit a piece of concrete jutting out of the curb & slashed my tire. The noise of all the air rushing out is kinda depressing. AAA said it would be an hour and a half to come change it (when I thought I had a decent spare but it turned out to be flat too so I just got it towed to the Tire place) so I said fuck it, I'll deal with it after the show ; )
Turned out to be well worth it tho - while the NYC show was good tonight everything just seemed to sparkle. Its just hard to describe the vibe but it was more like there was magic in the air and the show was (in my opinion anyway) ten times better. I also enjoyed Mike Peters & GLJ's sets more (possibly being slightly more familiar with the material now - I confess to being previously ignorant of Mr. Peter's solo work and Mr. Aston's later albums)
I can't even describe how great the Mission were tonight... the set was changed around a LOT from the NYC show & what I heard of Boston... I am lousy at taking notes and can't recite what was played in what order but it included: Beyond the Pale, Hands Across The Ocean, Into The Blue, Raising Cain, Butterfly On A Wheel, Serpents Kiss, Like a Hurricane, Swoon (THANK YOU WAYNE!!! I love that song dearly & it really means a lot to me to hear it!), Tower Of Strength, Deliverance...I think I'm forgetting something.... then for an encore Wayne came on with an acoustic guitar & did a nice Elvis cover in commemoration of his trip to Graceland while he drove the van cross country, then he asked what people would like to hear (lots of songs shouted out)... "Sanctuary?" asked Wayne & they started into the opening to She Sells Sanctuary & I about died (hey I'd love to hear them cover the Cult - I mean they've got half the old Cult lineup anyhow!!!) but we just got the opener, then they did 1969 and came back out again with Mike Peters joining in for an amazing cover of "Crazy Horses". Ack I know I'm forgetting things but I'm kinda fried by now.....
And Josh, he's still on about that Jaegermeister! It made quite the impression ; )
Afterwards we called the tow truck & waited, hey, its the first time I've everg got to be entertained talking to the band while waiting for the tow truck!! Wayne & Craig and Mark were nice enough to sign the pile of vinyl I brought with me (which now doesn't have to travel to the midwest) but still need to find Scott & hope he won't mind signing my Cult & Holy Barbarian stuff. (Yes I am a shameless autography junkie but it honestly is a sentimental thing to me!!) I can't thank them all enough (virtual hugs and kisses to all!!!) and am so looking forward to the next few shows (once I get new tires in the AM so I can drive!!)
EEck its 4 am.... I really need to sleep now..... maybe i'll get a chance to write a little more in the morning before I leave for Philly - I wish I had a laptop to write reviews from the road but instead I'll have to write them when I get home!

I second that! There's still maybe a *little* rust but the band seemed really happy and intent on raising that classic Mish vibe. The dry ice smoke helped a lot! =) Ah dry ice and colored lights, just like the days of olde...
>anyway) ten times better. I also enjoyed Mike Peters & GLJ's sets more
Mike's set was terrific! I *blush* know NOTHING about his solo work but
will have to check it out - wonderful voice, a really emotional, passionate
performance. Great to hear the old Alarm songs too! As for my GLJ review,
I'll save it for glj@onelist =) but DAMN Jay looks great.... >included: Beyond the Pale, Hands Across The Ocean, Into The Blue, into "Over the Hills"!
>Like a Hurricane, Swoon (THANK YOU WAYNE!!! I love that song dearly Liz left out that Wayne spotted her (and her burgundy hair=) in the front
row, leaned over and said "You saw us in New York, didn't you?" and after
playfully acusing *her* of being the deliverer of the venomous
Jaegermeister, announced "Swoon" - obviously remembering that she had been
the one to request it! Liz was on cloud nine =)
>then for an encore Wayne came on with an acoustic guitar & did a nice LOL! It was "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" a lovely version - can
you picture a set of Elvis covers?
>got the opener, then they did 1969 and came back out again with So help me God! Wayne said "..anyone here remember...The Osmonds?" and when
people laughed he teased "Ah, think I'm joking do you?" -- yeah it really
was *that* "Crazy Horses"!! Yikes! I was laughing too hard to hear any of
it...we joked that it was a Mormon solidarity gesture =)
>And Josh, he's still on about that Jaegermeister! It made quite the Yeah! Liz said it hadn't been she who handed Wayne the stuff but a friend
of hers, and Wayne retorted "he's no friend of *mine*!"
>Afterwards we called the tow truck & waited, hey, its the first time I've All true - they were just so chatty and sweet. Really a pleasure to talk to.
And Wayne made it clear that he's keeping up with the list via laptop while
they're on the road, so --hi Wayne!! (I still can't get over being able to
see his eyes..=)

From: "jbranson" (branson@loudoun.com) Hello everyone. Elizabeth has already sent in great review of last
nights show in DC. Guess I'll just fill in the blanks. There wasn't a very
large crowd at the show last night but that didnt stop the bands from
putting on great sets. There were only 10 or so people waiting in line when
then club opened. It was half full at best.
Mike came out early and played some new tunes which were quite good.
Then when he was joined by Criag and Scott and GLJ' guitarist he started
what would be a show filled with great jokes. The were trying to start
Spirit of 76 and I guess there were a few problems. He stopped the song
saying this isnt how punk rock was done but that was ok but they were still
better then Bruce Springsteen. After rapping up with some othe Alarm
classics it was time for GLJ.
GLJ came out and introduced themselves as Bruce Springsteen and the E
street band. In a Springsteen like touch they pulled a fan in the front row
on stage to model his GLJ tshirt. Great set lots of great jokes with the
crowd too many to name. I do wonder which of his brothers he was saying
couldnt sing? :)
Ok on to the Mish portion of the show. The Mish were in good spirits and
they sounded great. The only thing I didn't like was the backing track on
Butterfly it was a bit too loud and drowned the vocal. Of course the did
follow Butterfly up with Serpent's Kiss/Over the Hills and Faraway. I don't
know were they got the Idea to play those? :) Some great lines from Wayne
like are you all having a good time? Of course everyone sad yes. His reply
we'll put a stop to that before Raising Cain. Very nice crowd participation
in Deliverance even for a not backed house. The encore were awesome to say
the least. Starting with and acoustice Cant help falling in love. Then the
cult tease Elizabeth mentioned. This is were Like a hurricane came then 1969
and Crazy Horses with help from Mike Peters. Great show guys. Thanks.
Here is the Mish Setlist I forget exactly were raising cain was played so if
its wrong oh well. :)
